- Assuming your modem is external, and you want to do some dowloading on a
- frequent basis, it's a very good idea that you invest in a UART 16550 or
- better yet 16559an I/O card. They are only about $20 anyway.
- The 16500 has a biggest buffer and will allow you to set your serial
- speed to max to take advantage of your high speed modem and its data
- compression.

- Just to give you an example, I get faster download speeds using 38400 bps
- than 57600. (I have a 14.4 modem). The reason is that I/O cannot keep
- up with the data flow and there are collisions.. Buffering solves that
- really nice (16550).

- Another example of inadequate I/O is when you frequently get CRC checksum
- errors when you d/l files to your PC.
